(W)English learners can improve their ability to remember and use new words by testing themselves. This idea comes from Sarah Lynn, a teacher at Harvard University's Bridge Program. In today's program, I'll tell you what you can do to test yourself.
First, you can make cards. A simple way to test words is to create cards with questions on one side and the answer on the back. Now, many online services allow students to create digital cards. One such service is Quizlet. You can visit the website if you want to test yourself.
Another way is to ask yourself questions at the end of the day. Lynn suggests that learners ask questions such as “What did I learn today? What does the word I learned mean? How does it work?”
The important point is this: successful learning takes time, effort and practice. After all, Olympic players cannot learn how to swim or run just from reading a book.
