The invention of xun has relation to hunting. It developed from a hunting tool called “Stone Shooting Star”. In ancient times, people often tied a stone to the rope to hunt animals. Some of the stones were hollow. When they were thrown, they could make a special sound. To have fun, people invented a kind of musical instrument, which was widely known as xun. At first, people used the materials like stones or bones to make xun. Soon it was common to see xun made of clay. Xun comes in different shapes, like an egg, a fish, a ball or a pear.
